The week of October 22–28 marked the annual celebration of “National Family Promise Week.” This week-long celebration is held to raise awareness of child homelessness and our contributions to the issue and highlight the key partners who are helping us educate families to be self-sufficient.
To kick off National Family Promise Week, we had our partners from Comprehensive Community Health Center (CCHC) stop by our Day Center and provide current and past families free vision and dental screenings. All families in need of additional support were given referrals to the new CCHC clinic in Sunland.
Wednesday, October 25, all Family Promise families were treated to an exclusive tour of the Glendale Community College (GCC) campus. This tour is part of our new partnership with GCC to help our families find careers that they can focus on as they begin their road toward self-sufficiency. Thanks are due Dr. Robert Hill and Andra Verstraete, who helped coordinate the event.
Thursday, October 26, Family Promise welcomed all the coordinators from our host and support congregations for a late wine-and-cheese mixer. On that evening, the coordinators could catch up with one another, share their experiences, and reflect on families who have gone through our program. Special thanks to all the generous coordinators who attended this event and spent quality time with our staff and one another.
